 Program in which we use computer technology to develop perception and coordination of motor activity of children with special needs.
"malaVElika IGRA" is special therapeutically method for development of psychomotor activity and perception, and connection between motor activity and perception of the children with special needs, using computer technology. It's interesting and fun way of learning! |

Program begun in 2003. and it had been implemented in 2 special departments in Sremcica and Stamnica. "maliVEliki ljudi" are developing software packages and provide necessary equipment, trainings, manage the program and they work together with social workers and teachers for defective children in homes.
Till today, we made great results and we plan to widen the program in 2006, in two more institutions. "malaVElika igra" is performed with children in groups, and results are used to improve and adjust computer technology to work with children with special needs. |

"maliVeliki ljudi" developed two special software for work with children with special needs named "4 ugla" ("4 angles") and "Čova"("Funny Fellow") which are adjusted to children of different age. |

4ugla (4angles)
Software "4 angles" is used for making movement coordination with paying attention to what's happening on the screen. The task is to click on four coloured circles which are placed in four corners of the screen. Every click is followed by sound and it is proved to be very useful for kids when they are connecting a symbol with familiar feeling. The end of the task is to click on central circle followed by applause which is reward for successfully finished task and which is accepted by everyone in the classroom.
This way children accept terms ,of colour and shape, faster and more easier. Beside developing fine motor activity, we could recognize improvement in perception and attention in other activities. Also, we noticed decrease in energy at hyperactive children.

Čova (fellow)
"Fellow" is interesting game with task to connect body parts (arms, legs, body and head) using a computer mouse or trackball. Body parts, which belong to people of different sex and profession, are divided on the screen. Task is succesfull when child manages to connect body parts, creating a complete figure. Compared to previous software, children have to make more effort to put all body parts on the right place by holding the right click all the time. That is another level in developing motor activity.
Before practicing "Funny Fellow" game, it is recommended to make child familiar with it by using similar paper game.
As in "4 angles", goal is to achieve development of motor activity, as well as to provide easier and faster learning about scheme of human body, which can often be very difficult for children with special needs.

These two software packages are successfully combined together and they will be extended with adjusted coloring books, which represent tasks in exercises.
"maliVeliki ljudi" are active in developing methodology and new games. Every your comment or suggestion are very important.

Results
Through the game, children develop perception and motor activities in very interesting and funny way. Faster, easier and in interesting way, children are learning about colours and shapes. Beside developing motor activity, it is noticable that perception and attention to other activities are improved too.
Also, we noticed decrease of excessive activity at hyperactive children.
Working with children using computer technology, is concept which gives great results in therapy all over the world, but it is not used enough in Serbia. Children with special needs should be treated during the learning process, the same way as all other children. |
